Picasso in his hometown: the fully wheelchair accessible Museo Picasso Malaga organizes guided visits specially designed for visually and hearing impaired people as well as guided tours for people with other disabilities.
The Palacio de Buenavista , a historical building of characteristic 16th century Andalusian architecture, houses the Museo Picasso Málaga. During the restoration work, Phoenician remains were discovered here and are now exhibited in their own archaeological section.
The museum has been funded by the Junta de Andalucía with the support of Picasso's heirs; both his daughter-in-law, Christine, and his grandson, Bernard, decided to donate or hand over 204 pieces of work (oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings and ceramics) from their private collections, which cover all the periods, subjects and techniques embraced by Picasso and include excellent examples, such as the paintings in the style of the Guernica.
Accessible entrance for wheelchair users and PRM is located about 5 metres to the left of the main entrance: actually it's a level entrance to the archaeological remains, which can be visited by means of several ramps and footbridges. The opening of this entrance must be requested to the Museum staff as it is usually locked. On this lower floor there's an elevator that will take us to the Museum's ground floor and first floor, both accessible. There are adapted toilets on the lower floor . Other accessible premises at this Museum are the Café, the Bookshop, the Library and the Auditorium.
Wheelchairs, baby back carriers and strollers are available upon request.
