Premises in the Lladró Museum and world famous Lladró Factory, the City of Porcelain, in Tavernes Blanques (Valencia) are fully accessible to wheelchair users and PRM.
The origins of porcelain, one of the most beautiful and delicate of man-made materials, are located in the Far East: along the silk route, caravans transported this fragile merchandise to the Islamic lands and sometimes even to Europe. Marco Polo, on his return from Central Asia at the end of the 13th century, wrote most enthusiastically about this material known in Italy as " porceletta". Still it was for the Portuguese, the period's great navigators, to create the word "porsolana". After Europeans learned to reach the Far East by sea, in the 16th century, a very lively trading scene developed. A hard-paste porcelain comparable to the Oriental blend was first produced in Germany, a discovery that led to the founding of the Meissen name in 1710, whose domination in the manufacture of hard-paste porcelains was to last almost a century.
The origins of Lladró date back to a small craft workshop built in the mid-1950s in Almássera, near Valencia. In a short time, the small workshop was expanded several times, evolving until today's City of Porcelain where more than 2000 people work: sculptures and figurines created there are exported to more than 120 countries.
The world famous LLadró figurines factory is located in Tavernes Blanques, just outside of Valencia on the outskirts of the town. One can visit the Museum and see the production chain, how the plasticine is poured into molds, and what the pieces look like as they come out of them, how pieces are handed to the painters, passed on to the specialists, who add delicate touches such as the flowers or lace trim. and learn about the history of porcelain and Lladró manufacturing business. You explore the extensive collection of Lladro figurines and paintings collected by the three founders.
