ALEGRÍA. MADRID-LONDON.

Alegría. Nymphes. Click to zoom imageTaking its name from a Spanish word for joy and jubilation, a mood and state of mind, Alegría visits Madrid and London. Cirque du Soleil celebrated its 10th visit to London in 2006 and they will return for the very last time in 2007.

Featuring an international cast, the show unfolds in a baroque, operatic style with elaborate sets and dazzling costumes. Power and the handing down of power over time, the evolution from ancient monarchies to modern democracies, old age, youth-it is against this backdrop that the characters of Alegría play out their lives. Kings' fools, minstrels, beggars, old aristocrats and children make up its universe, along with the clowns, who alone are able to resist the passing of time and the social transformations that accompany it.

The Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) seats over 2500 spectators per show with an adjoining entrance tent. Like a Roman amphitheatre, the seats fan out for 270 degrees around a central, circular revolving stage. There is a wheelchair accessible area and it is very important that wheelchair users reserve a space in the designated section because the rest of the big top is not wheelchair-accessible. You can do it via e-mail (saleseurope@cirquedusoleil.com) and fax (0031 20 355 0 258). Individuals holding tickets for spaces in this specially designated area should arrive at least 60 minutes prior to the performance. Latecomers can only be accommodated during intermission.
Once you are on the site, ushers will guide you towards the appropriate doors or sections.
