The whole staff in Centro Dato and Polibea has worked during the last 25 years in the rehabilitation, integration, formation and independent life enhance of severely physically disabled people.
One of the important purposes of the Polibea Respite Project is to provide families and caretakers of disabled people with the opportunity for periodic relief from the physical and/or emotional stress they may experience while caring for their disabled family member at home.
Being aware of both the facts that leisure enjoyment is part of the whole human experience (a basic element in the physical, psychological and social wellbeing of the individual: moreover it's a key factor towards the full integration of disabled persons) and the convenience to provide families/caretakers a break from their daily routine of caregiving, we have decided trying to satisfy these two needs by developing our Polibea Respite Project, consisting now of two different programmes available from next October both for particular individuals and organizations:
- Sierra Norte Program (5 days, Monday to Friday)
- Urban Respite Program (1 day, Saturday/ Sunday)
Urban Respite Program (1 day, Saturday/ Sunday)
This is a new one-day program that will take place in Madrid, in the Centro Dato-Polibea premises: the Centro and its private gardens are fully adapted/accessible for wheelchair users.
Several workshops and other leisure activities will be held from 10 am to 19 pm (they might include cultural tours in the city according to demands and profiles of groups) and lunch and an afternoon snack are included (special meals for people with special needs can be arranged at the time of booking). Adapted transport to/from the Centro Dato (easily and conveniently located) is available and optional.
Our staff and volunteers, specially trained in caring for children or adults with special needs, help to make experiences and activities both enjoyable and memorable.
Respite is often referred to as a gift of time: ours is a project enthusiastically designed aiming to meet and satisfy expectations generated by an especially vulnerable community whose potentials and influence are increasing in our society.
