Logroño is fully worthy of its status as the capital of the Rioja culture. This is a city rich in history and traditions which have been preserved since the Middle Ages. The Pilgrim's Route to Santiago de Compostela made this one of the most important towns on the route, leaving an interesting monumental legacy closely linked to the traditional passing of the pilgrims.
The city is the seat of the Designation of Origin Control Board, which plays a key part in the complex machinery of the wine sector in the region. Logroño's strategic geographic situation makes it the ideal place for visiting this world-famous wine region.
The Logroño Sin Barreras organization was founded in 1990, with the aim to enhance and promote autonomy, fully social participation and wellbeing of people with physical impairments. After having worked in the guide since January 2006 they have completed and launched an accessibility guide-book featuring facilities in over 518 public and private buildings in the city, which, in addition to the printed version, is available in their website.
The texts in the guide are written just in Spanish , but icons might be very helpful for those visiting the city (info about facilities for deaf and/or visually impaired people is provided by icons, too).
Buildings have been organized in the following cattegories: Administración estatal (State administration), Administración autonómica (Autonomous administration), Administración local (Local administration), Centros de asistencia sanitaria ( Hospitals and Healthcare), Educación (Schools and Colleges), Deporte (Sports) Cultura y Espectáculos (including Organismos Oficiales y Entidades, Archivos, Bibliotecas -Libraries-, Museos y Colecciones -Museums-, Salas de exposiciones -Art Galleries- y Cultura , Música, Teatro, Cine y Toros) Turismo (including: Organismos Oficiales, Oficinas de Turismo -Tourist Offices- Alojamientos- Accommodation, Hotels-,) Instituciones religiosas -Churches-, Sindicatos y colegios -Trade unions-, Empresas, Asociaciones, Tráfico y comunicación -Transport and Communications-.
