DISCOVER MADRID 2007


The Madrid City Council's Tourist Board is offering, through the "Descubre Madrid" programme, guided tours specially designed for people with impairments.

Click to zoom image.With its Descubre Madrid (Discover Madrid) programme the Madrid City Council's Tourist Board hopes to introduce growing numbers of people to the history, art, architecture, literature and legends of the city. These free guided tours of Madrid are conducted by professional guides (available only in Spanish): some of these tours have been specially designed for impaired people.

The following guided tours have been specially designed for impaired people with the collaboration of the ONCE (National Org for the Blind) and the FESORCAM (Madrid 's Deaf People Org): bookings for any of these visits should be made through these organizations.

"El Madrid del Capitán Alatriste"

Captain Alatriste is a character created by the author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The best-selling series Capitán Alatriste have been recently adapted to the cinema.
This tour takes us to the Madrid of Lope de Vega, of Calderón de la Barca and of Tirso de Molina and all the intrigues that brew in the theatres of the XVII century.

Accessible Guided Tours 2007 (first semester).

People with reduced mobility.

There are wheelchairs for loan available on request (notice in advance).

2. El Parque Del Buen Retiro.
(The Buen Retiro Park )
The Retiro, situated behind the Prado museum, is perhaps Madrid 's best known and widely visited park. It occupies 120 hectares of land in the very centre of Madrid.
Meeting point: Puerta Paseo de Coches. Calle O'Donnell.
Time: 11:00 h.
Dates: April, May 12 th and June 16 th .

Blind/visually impaired people.

Guides conducting these tours have been specially trained by the ONCE (National Org for the Blind).

Tours are accompanied by a two guides, one of them using the Spanish Sign Language (LSE).
