Click to zoom image. The Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido is situated high in the Pyrenees along the Spanish/French border in the province of Huesca. It was created in 1918 by a Royal Decree which declared Ordesa Valley a National Park of 21 square kilometres of extension. In July 1982 it was enlarged to the 156.08 km² it has today and its official name changed to Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido. It's included in the Biosphere Reserve of Ordesa-Viñamala declared by UNESCO in 1997.

Canyon. Ordesa National Park.Huesca. Click to zoom image. The park and its environs offer natural beauty and supreme tranquility, with trails for all skill levels from which up to a 60% can now be enjoyed by wheelchair users and PMR by means of the Joëlette wheelchair. The Aragon Autonomous Government through its Environment Dept is working to eliminate barriers in this natural area and is offering free use of these 4 Joelettes to those visitors who may need it. As the chair is carried by two people all users must be accompanied (suggested number of companions is from 2 to 4 as some slopes might be too step). The especial trekking chairs will be distributed in several areas of the park, though at present they are available at La Pradera de Ordesa and a booking/reservation is to be made through any of the Oficinas del Parque (Park Offices). Authorities in the Park, together with local disabled people organizations, are planning to offer a service of volunteers to assist individual unaccompanied disabled visitors.

The Park's Visitors Centres are accessible to wheelchair users/PMR and the Casa Olivan one has been designed for sensorial disabled visitors (reservation must be made in advance).
