Zafra, also known as Little Seville, is right at the heart of Baja Extremadura, in Badajoz. The town is dominated by the 15th-century Alcázar (fortress) which nowadays houses the local Parador de Turismo (wheelchair accessible). The city's monumental heritage is very rich, with great buildings such as the Santa Clara convent (Convent of the Clares of Saint Mary of the Valley) recently opened as a museum. This museum opened its doors to the public in January but it was last July that barriers where eliminated to make it accessible to people with reduced mobility. A ramp to enter the building has been installed and an adapted lift is available to reach the second floor.
Zafra is a population full of historical samples, where exhibitions of sacred art can be seen in its majestic Colegiata as well as in the cosy and beautiful Museum-Convent of Santa Clara. At the end of 19th century, in 1882, King Alfonso XII gave Zafra the title of City, and since 1965 awards the name of National Historical Set, which was already awarded by its beautiful Alcázar in 1931.
