Several accessibility upgrading works have been carried out in the most visited public venues at the Natural Park of Sanabria. People with reduced mobility can now enjoy this magnificent glacial lagoon and nature area.

The Parque Natural de Sanabria is located to the northeast of the province of Zamora, in the nature area of Sanabria. There is a mountainous zone with deep valleys, dotted with a multitude of glacier lagoons. The most important of them is Sanabria Lake: it is 3 km long and 1.5 km wide, with a 9.3 km perimeter and depth of up to 51 metres, which make it the biggest on the Iberian Peninsula. Predominately oak groves but you can also find alders, ashes, willows, birches, holly, chestnut, yew, and chestnut trees. The fauna boasts a great variety of species: 76 types of birds and 17 large mammals. Amongst them the partridge and wolf.

It is possible to swim in Lake Sanabria in the summer as there are two sandy beaches, one in Ribadelago Nuevo and the other one in Castañares.

Thanks to a cooperation agreement signed between the Fundación Patrimonio Natural de Castilla y León and the Obra Social "la Caixa" an accessibility project has been carried out in several venues at the Parque Natural.

-The access to the Information Office (road to San Martín de Castañeda) has been equipped with a ramp.

-Access to Playa de Viquiella (the one in Ribadelago). Reserved Parking Areas for PRM have been created, a wheelchair accessible path from there to the picnic area has been made and adapted tables have been set in the picnic zone. The beach is accessible by means of a ramp and a free of charge amphi-chair is available for those willing to bathe in the lake. Adapted toilets have been built too.

-"Mirador de Neveira" (The viewpoint in San Martín de Castañeda). The path leading to this viewpoint is now accessible to wheelchair users thanks to the new paved surface.

-"Mirador del Forcadura" (The viewpoint in Vigo de Sanabria). The path leading to this viewpoint is now accessible to wheelchair users thanks to the new paved surface.

-Accessible Path in Laguna de Peces (Vigo de Sanabria).

Above the Lake of Sanabria, the village of San Martin de Castañeda conserves the church of the old Cistercian order monastery. It dates from the 12th century; at the moment the Center of Interpretation of the Natural Park of the Lake of Sanabria has been located in this church, but the new accessible premises are intended to open soon to the public.
