"Senderos para todos" (accessible walking routes, trails and paths) is part of the Accessible Tourism Project which is developing the Diputación de Huesca in North Aragon.
The province of Huesca, in the north of Aragon, is the Pyrennean area with the highest peaks and most complex orography. The north is immensely mountainous with a wet climate while the south is flatter.
Huesca is the birthplace of the kingdom of Aragon and, as such, has an extremely important cultural heritage, filled with monuments, Natural heritage is impressive here: Incredible landscapes throughout the over 150 km. of the Pyrenees at heights above 3000 m.
"Senderos para todos" (accessible walking routes and paths) is part of the Accesible Tourism Project which is developing the Diputación de Huesca: a guide for leisure activities professionals concerning accessibility to nature, paths and trails has been launched a couple weeks ago. The first 2 routes to be PRM accessible during this year are the path from Biescas to Santa Elena and the one from Cornato to the viewpoint in Bielsa.
Biescas is s ituated in a unique geographical position, as it contains the only bridge which allows access to the valleys of Tena y Ara. Its urban district is divided by the river into two distinct neighbourhoods.
This route starting from Biescas to the hermitage of Santa Elena is a pleasant and interesting walk along the left-hand banks of the river Gállego, in which you can see a variety of landscapes.
In addition to the works which will be carried out so that the paths are suitable and accessible for PRM, accessibility for the blind/visually impaired has been taking into account. Several information points where you can learn about flora, fauna, geology and history will feature information adapted for the blind (info in Braille and tactile panels are planned to be installed). Safety equipment, handrails and guide systems will be available along these routes, too.
The Camino de Cornato to the viewpoint in Bielsa runs along the river Cinca by a pine forest and Pineta dam.
